Raptors, why have you forsaken me?

In honour of the Toronto Raptors seventh consecutive loss, I did a Perez to this
photo from the Toronto Star. Feel my pain.

HANG THE ACADEMY

For Best Director:

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (Paramount and Warner Bros.), David Fincher
Frost/Nixon (Universal), Ron Howard
Milk (Focus Features), Gus Van Sant
The Reader (The Weinstein Company), Stephen Daldry
Slumdog Millionaire (Fox Searchlight), Danny Boyle

Where the hell is the Dark Knight? I watched that movie in an I-max and it made me dizzy at times. Breathtaking. Plus, isn't part of directing getting performances out of your actors? Yeah, Heath Ledger's Joker was no big deal..... jerks.

I got a pencil right here, and I know what to do with it.

Comics Day, NOW WITH EXTRA GEEKIENESS

Just sharing some of my favourite web comics here. First up, Garfield Minus Garfield... didn't you know, if you take Garfield out of Garfield comic strips, you get a strange journey into the disturbed mind of Jon Arbuckle.... look and see:

EDITED TO ADD: I can't make these images fit this column. Just click for the full size..... ESPECIALLY the Jesus one.

Jesus VS Nazis comes back on Jan. 19.... Jesus Christ, In The Name of the Gun has taken an epic turn as of late, with JC and his affable sidekick Ernest Hemmingway taking out Nazi's left and right, always stopping to make a poop joke. Enjoy this page, and buy the book when they release it later this year. The paper copy includes the Adventures of Hemmingway in Vietnam, can't miss.

Take that, Hitler.... I love this book.

Finally, Friday brings abut the long awaited return of Battlestar Galactica. Who is the 5th Cylon.... I don't care. I'm more interested in what happened when all those Centurions received free will.... saying please won't work on them much longer, as Gaius Balther has been putting ideas in their toaster heads.

Also, no way that Adama or Roslin live. A reoccouring theme in the series has been that in order for the child to reach maturity, the parents must die. Adama and Roslin are Mom and Dad. There is a fourth season marathon starting on Friday at 10 am.... I do have some overtime built up, I should take the day.

So, two more Battlestar LOL cat for youse guys.

Enjoy, and visit The House to vote for the Nunies.

Since my AWG blog was snubbed, I advise you to vote for Qanuippit as Best New Blog. There is some really heartfelt writing there.

Qanuippit is linked here on the side. I'd recommend it.... hell, I nominated it.

And one final note. Just because you have two IP addresses, don't vote twice. These awards are simple and no one should be trying to throw them one way or another. Just vote your heart and let it be.

Charles Manson RIP

My beloved bio photo has changed. The photo you see below is my treasured "Charles Manson" bio photo from my previous job. Inflatable Elvis took it on one of the first days we met, and I think it gives me an aura on invinciability.

See it here in splendor:

However, seeing as I work in television, when we went to Winnipeg, they took new bio photos. That way, when something awful happens (or something good) they have a recent photo to use. You can just fill in the script:

Kentofthenorth, of Iqaluit Nunavut was found yesterday [insert thing here].

And here is the new photo..... I'm warming to it, I'm sort of smirking ;)

I'll miss ol' Mr Manson, but life goes on.

The opposite of Help

The baby's babysitter was out of action today, due to a problem geting heat in their house. That means I am working from home, with the baby as my non-helping help.

He is relentless in his pursuit of the computer. As you can see from this photo. I have the desk turned around, the coffee table set up as a barricade, and the couch as well. Doesn't stop him....

Akulliq, the gift that keeps on giving

As most of you know by now, the Akulliq riding is heading for their second by-election.

I just want to say, as a reporter, this riding is the gift that keeps on giving. I'll be on tonight talking about it.

I'm sure the people in Akulliq would prefer this election to be over. I understand, but thanks to them and their uncanny voting, I have a nice little item for the show tonight.

Thanks Akulliq, and I hope you get a result next time.

EDITED TO ADD: I'm wearing a tie tonight, because that is how we roll.

Lobbying for prizes

So, the now annual self-congratulatory back-slapping begins and the Nunies are back. The awards for blogs about and from Nunavut.

I'll make this short. I am throwing my APTN Arctic Winter Games blog into the ring for best new blog, as it is new, and I think shows another way that the medium can be used.

Plus, it is just chock full of video goodness. You should all nominate me. Go to THE HOUSE to find out how.

That is the last lobbying I will do, and when the nominations are up, i'll show you where to go vote. No campaigining, no ballot box stuffing, just me saying I think that blog kicks some major ass, and I am very proud of it.
